Keep Calm And Carry On

Today’s savvy air travelers have mastered the art of the carry on. It saves time you would otherwise spend checking the bag and then waiting to pick it up at the baggage carousel, not to mention those pesky checked-bags fees charged by nearly all air carriers.

We’ve reviewed the latest and greatest carryon luggage and are recommending our top 5 picks. In no particular order (you really can’t go wrong with any of these!), they are as follows:

1. Samsonite Spettro 20-inch Spinner

There are plenty of different brands of carry-ons in the market, and Samsonite continues to stand out for its quality and affordability. We love the Spettro for its modern look and multidirectional spinner wheels. The Spettro handles easily and is a scratch resistant shell just in case it gets bumped or falls over during your travels. Packing is not a struggle, with built-in travel cubes and zippered pockets to organize your gear.

2. Incase EO Travel Hardshell Roller

This is a lightweight and roomy option if you prefer two wheels to a four-wheel spinner. The best feature of this bag is a polycarbonate hardshell sleeve for your laptop. When going through TSA, all you have to do is unzip the top of the bag and it will pass through the machine without having to remove your laptop and place it into a bin (though if the TSA agents insist on it, it’s best to comply with their request).  The hardshell is only on one side and the rest of the bag is a soft and durable fabric that both looks and feels great.

3. Calpak x Jen Atkin 22-inch Suitcase

If you want both convenience and style, this is the carry-on for you. It’s a gorgeous piece of luggage with a comfy handle and super smooth-rolling wheels. You can choose from pink, gold, red, or black and we just love the included stickers for customization. Another super cool feature are the clasps, which make it far easier than zippers when you need to access your toiletries and electronics in that security line.

4. Eagle Creek Wayfinder 40L Backpack

For those of you who don’t want drag your luggage along, this is our pick for a backpack style carry-on. In comes in both men’s and women’s suspensions, and is spacious enough to pack a few days of clothing along with lots of organizational features. The most notable are the weatherproof laoptop and tablet compartment, side poxkets for water bottles (make sure they’re empty when going through TSA lanes!),  and hip belt that you can tuck away when you don’t want to use it.

5. Raden A22 Smart Carry On Spinner

For the tech-lovers among us, this bag is just plain awesome. It is a bit pricier than some of the other carry-ons on our list, but the extra cost is well worth it for the features it provides. First of all for the structure, it has a polycarbonate outer shell that is shock absorbent to prevent damage in transit, and it comes in lots of both glossy and matte color choices. Now on to the tech features. This luggage has an accompanying smart phone app that syncs via Bluetooth. It can weigh your bag and track it through its built-in GPS if you happen to get separated from it, or decide to check it. The Raden also has built-in (removable) battery pack for you to charge your phone, tablet, and laptop – no more fighting for space at a charging station! Definitely a convenient choice for people who want to stay connected.
